Youth Programs Volunteer Training

This training series prepares volunteers to work with youth in our residential youth shelter, Drop-In Center for homeless youth, transitional housing program, Quetzal House, and the Volunteer Case Aide program.

In general, volunteers in these programs work with youth who are either in foster care, homeless, or are living in one of our supportive housing programs. Volunteers provide mentorship, tutoring, facilitate workshops, help with resume preparation and job readiness, assist staff with outings, and spend time with the youth, acting as positive role models.

Training is provided in a wide variety of topics including boundaries, grief, child abuse, the child welfare system, mental health, working with teens, homeless youth street culture and more.

While the volunteer schedule is extremely flexible, volunteers typically spend 4 to 8 hours per week volunteering and we ask that you make a one-year commitment. Ongoing support and training is provided.
