Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer for the Centre for Living with Dying, a Bill Wilson Center Program.

As a Centre for Living with Dying volunteer counselor, you will make a difference by sharing your caring presence with people facing trauma, grief and loss. The Centre provides individual, group and crisis intervention services to youth, adults and emergency responders in our community. We are seeking individuals who can bring the gift of their compassion to others in the aftermath of trauma or loss.

We ask that those who are interested in becoming a volunteer counselor are able to make the following commitment:

  1. Speak with our Volunteer Program Manager and complete a volunteer application.
  2. Complete fingerprinting, a background check, and a TB test.
  3. Attend the volunteer training series (dates and times outlined above).
  4. Be willing to commit to at least one calendar year of service.
  5. Attend evening volunteer meetings 2 times per month on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday from 6-8pm.
  6. Be flexible and open to responding during daytime hours, as well as some evenings, as needed for individual and group grief counseling.
  7. See a minimum of one client per week.
  8. Be available to respond to crisis intervention requests as needed, as well as speaking requests from the community.
  9. Assist with special events, such as Light of Lights Candle Ceremony, AIDS Rejuvenation Retreats, Grief and the Holidays Seminar, and other events as designated.
  10. Be able to keep updated written records and consult with staff regularly.
If you are able to meet these requirements and would like to proceed to the next step in the application process, contact Janna Kenniston, Bill Wilson Center Volunteer Program Manager.
