Bill Wilson Center receives $180,000 grant from The California Wellness Foundation

SANTA CLARA, CA - September 13, 2010 – Bill Wilson Center (BWC) announced today that it has received a three-year $180,000 grant from The California Wellness Foundation (TCWF). The grant will help to support the agency’s infrastructure for drop-in services for homeless youth and supportive housing programs. These services focus on transition age youth who are homeless, runaway or are transitioning out of foster care.

“The current economic environment has limited the number of grants available for operations expenses,” offers Bill Wilson Center CEO Sparky Harlan. “This grant couldn’t come at a better time for Bill Wilson Center. We are very grateful for this wonderful donation and look forward to a continued relationship with TCWF.”

Transition age youth (TAY) between the ages of sixteen and twenty-four experience a number of challenges on their path to a successful adulthood. BWC services blend the elements of mental health, rehabilitation, family and community support, and self-help.

“Individualized services are provided to transition age youth to meet their mental health needs while taking into account factors in their life such as education, employment, housing and substance abuse recovery,” offered James Comfort, TAY Mental Health Program Manager at BWC. “The focus is on strengthening their natural support systems through empowering youth to make healthy life choices.”

Transition age youth are at a critical juncture in their lives. With the support of The California Wellness Foundation, Bill Wilson Center can help each youth become healthy and self-sufficient adults.
